Mel Lindauer for Washington State Representative

My Political Philosophy

I'm often asked how I think I can make a difference in our state government.  My answer is that I have a gift for getting people to work together

Results will be achieved by sharing ideas and focusing on areas where mutual agreement can be found. Beyond political party or ideology, the lawmakers of our state share many common goals: For Washington families to have security, prosperity, and a comfortable standard of living; and for our children to grow up well educated, ready to enter to workforce, and with opportunities that will entice them to want to remain in Washington.

It's often said that nothing worth accomplishing is easy. I believe we can realize bipartisan solutions to the biggest challenges facing our state.  I'm prepared for that challenge!

One man with courage is a majority.

Campaign Supporters Have The Last Word

"Dear Mel, What a classy way to end your campaign. I’m glad that you are going to stay involved. I think you may have lost an election but have picked up a new patient. Thanks."

"Very nice Mel. Your future is bright for elected office."

"Thank you for running.  Clean campaigns with good 1st time candidates, no axe to grind & no personal agenda are indeed few & far between in any party.  I appreciate it."

"Dr. Mel, (We) were deeply saddened by your loss.  You are a good honest man who would be a positive influence in any position you would hold.  This is a time for you to look back at the positives of your campaign and then look to the future and the next try.  We know you will not give up!   This world is filled with the “Dreamers” and the “Do-ers”...You are someone who is willing to step out and take the chance.  There are so many people who do not even care!  A true Leader is a servant to everyone and is only as good as the people surrounding him. Lastly, and most importantly you are loved and supported by family, friends, and associates.  This life isn’t about the successes we have but the relationships we have with each other… May God Bless you and your dear family always."

"I was sure pulling for you Mel.  I encourage you to keep your aspirations high, using your gifts & talents for leadership in the future!  Thanks for putting forth this effort.  Who knows what the future might hold?"

"Great work, Mel."

"I still say Congratulations on a great race.  To come from nowhere and do so well, you must be proud.  And I am so glad to see that you are willing to try again.  You have learned so much and have so much to offer voters.  Good show!!!"

"Thank you, Mel, for all you have done.  I will certainly support you again the next time you run!"

My Pledge to You

When I am elected your State Representative...

I will listen. I will work hard each and every day to incorporate your views, concerns, and values into legislation.  Your opinions are important to me, and I will always treat you with courtesy and respect.  My door will always be open and you will always be heard. I will not be satisfied with our State's performance until the needs of Eastern Washington residents are met.

I will not be satisfied with the status quo. It concerns me to watch my fellow hard-working Washingtonians struggle to make ends meet. Higher taxes, a slowing economy, prices of consumer goods rising and home values dropping, are eroding our quality of life. I will work diligently to turn challenges into opportunities so that your American Dream can remain strong.

I will support economic growth here at home. It is important that businesses in Washington State are prosperous so that our citizens can hold good jobs and be well compensated. I support an environment of business creativity and growth. Attracting and maintaining productive business within our state is good for all Washington residents.

I will hold the office with the highest regard. Too often it seems our political leaders lose their way. I pledge to be respectful of the office and the opportunities afforded me, to always give the people of the 6th District my full and complete effort, to strive toward clarity of thought and purpose, and to maintain a moral compass that will be worthy of your respect and your vote.

Have We Talked Yet?

For me, knocking on doors and meeting new people is a gratifying experience.

Since announcing my candidacy I have been very busy. I have visited well over 15,000 6th District homes.  My work is just beginning, however, as it is important to me that I meet with the people that I will represent.  This campaign is not about what I want. It's about what the people of Spokane want.  It has been interesting and informative learning more about how the people of the 6th District envision life in our state in the coming years.

For those of you that I have met with already like:

Countdown to the Primary Election

Primary Election Wrap-Up

Thank You Supporters and Spokane Voters

Dear Friends,

With the majority of District 6 votes now tallied, it is clear Kevin Parker is the Republican candidate of choice to continue on to the General Election. I want to congratulate him on a hard fought campaign. He did an outstanding job.

I consider this first effort uniquely successful having generated
state-wide attention and support, and over 8,100 District 6 votes.

When I announced my candidacy for State Representative a little over 6 months ago I was determined to put my full effort into running an upbeat, grass-roots campaign. While I did not win this race, I consider this first effort uniquely successful having generated state-wide attention and support, and over 8,100 District 6 votes.
I am grateful to my campaign staff who worked tirelessly, and to my wife and sons for their unyielding patience. I also thank my many volunteers and financial supporters who generously gave their time and money. While I am looking forward to turning my immediate attention back to my optometric practice and to my family, it is my intent to stay active in local and state politics.
With the Primary Election over, it is important to now focus on the Republican Party winning back the District 6 legislative seat lost in 2006. I lend my full support to Kevin Parker and I urge my supporters to do the same. It is time for a change in our state government and we need to support Republican candidates who can help bring about the positive changes we need.

Thank you again!

Washington State is a wonderful place to live. Let’s make it even better!

To move our state forward in a positive direction there are many challenges to be addressed:

  • Affordable healthcare
  • Quality education
  • Business and economic growth
  • Support for seniors and veterans
  • Transportation funding
  • Fiscal responsibility; and
  • Tax reform so that our people can keep more of their hard-earned dollars.

I prefer smaller government, less spending and lower taxes.

I believe we can find a balance between what our citizens need and what our state can afford.

Together, we can realize a better future for all Spokane families.
